Ayutthaya is an ancient capital of Thailand, and was founded by King Ramathibodi in 1350. He remained as the capital of Thailand for almost 417 years. Ayutthaya was ruled by 33 kings of five dynasties. The town was named for Ayutthaya home of Rama in the Ramayana of India, which means invincible.
During the first 180 years, Ayutthaya is a city very quiet and not go to war with its neighbors. The main activity of the city wasTrading. But after the death of King Ramathibodi, for the first time, the city was involved in a war with Burma in 1529. After that, the city has come to fight many wars. Ayutthaya was beaten by the Burmese in 1569. After fifteen years, the city was reconquered by King Naresuan. The city continued to prosper for the next 118 years and after it was invaded and destroyed by the Burmese in 1767. The capital was then Tuskin king of Thonburi, which moved to the vanquishedBurma. After his reign the capital was moved to Bangkok by King Rama
The destroyed city was left untouched in the jungle for more than one hundred years. Ayutthaya was 85 km north of Bangkok, where even today the ruins of the ancient city. The ruins indicate that Ayutthaya was one of the precious city of Thailand. The city covers an area of 2,556 km square.
In modern times, tourists can easily access by road, river and railway, andone of most popular attractions in Thailand.
